  8. -------

  10. I strongly recommend using FD 2.12 rather than FD 2.02.  FD 2.12 is much
  11. easier to set up with BGFAX and works more better.
  12.  
  13. Binkley
  14. -------
  15.  
  16. A new version of Binkley allows it to exit when a fax response is received,
  17. but I need to learn more about it before I post details.  I haven't quite
  18. figured it out myself.  People post a dozen different ways of getting it to
  19. work, and it just doesn't work for some people.  :-)
  20.  
  21. USR owners
  22. ----------

  24. If you own one of the brand new USR 21.6K Dual Standards with Class 2.0 fax
  25. capabilities, you can send and receive faxes on your BBS lines.  This is
  26. the *ONLY* modem USR makes that is compatible with BGFAX.  BGFAX DOES NOT
  27. WORK WITH THE SPORTSTER LINE!
  28.  
  29. See the included FD-USR.TXT file that describes how to accomplish this with
  30. FD 2.12/SW.  At this time, no documentation is available for users of
  31. D'Bridge, etc.  However, the FD-USR.TXT file should give you some basic hints
  32. and suggestions that will allow you to use your modem with BGFAX.
  33.  
  34. Hayes owners
  35. ------------
  36.  
  37. BGFAX has been tested with the Hayes 288 modem.
  38.  
  39. Make sure you are using the 3.10 ROMs.  Use the ATI3 command.  It will
  40. produce a multi-line response.  Look for:
  41.  
  42.     04-00621-310 27232 PASS      <-- Notice the "310", that means 3.10
  43.              ^^^
  44. ATI7 will produce a more human readable response, but it is not reliable.
  45. ATI7 will report the ROM version that ORIGINALLY was in the modem when it
  46. was manufactuered.
  47.  
  48. ZyXEL owners
  49. ------------

  51. See the included FD-ZYXEL.TXT file for an example of how to use the ZyXEL
  52. with FD 2.11/SW.
  53.  
  54. Basically, the init strings are:
  55.

  58. AT#B1+FCLASS=6

  60. And the answer string is "ATA".
  61.  
  62. If you have trouble with BGFAX and the ZYXEL, you can always use REFAX.
  63.  
  64. Supra owners
  65. ------------
  66. BGFAX was originally tested using the 1.2H ROMs (no Caller ID) and the
  67. data fixing 1.7B04 ROMs, but is now tested using the newly released
  68. 1.8 ROMs that fix some fax problems encountered in eariler versions.
  69.  
  70. Zoom owners
  71. -----------
  72.  
  73. Some Zoom owners have experienced more reliable BGFAX operation when using
  74. the exclaimation point (!, bang) after the port.  This instructs BGFAX to
  75. NOT drop the port speed down to 19200 bps when in fax mode.  Almost all
  76. Class 2 fax modems require this shift.  SOME Zoom modems will not operate
  77. with BGFAX unless you use the "!" after the port.  SOME Zoom modems will
  78. NOT operate if you PUT the "!" after the port.  Just a little warning.
  79.

  81.     bgfax /fax c:\bgfax 1! z      <-- keep locked at current rate
  82.  
  83. PPI owners
  84. ----------
  85. Some of the earlier PPI modems do not include Class 2 fax.  You can buy an
  86. upgrade ROM for approximately $30 that will let you use BGFAX, however, it
  87. will only allow fax speeds up to 9600 rather than 14400.  If you want to
  88. use 14400 fax, you will have to get a new motherboard and datapump that
  89. will cost you about $100.  Most fax machines only support 9600 fax anyway
  90. so this is not that much of a problem.
  91.  
  92. Please note that most PPI owners are using the newer models that include
  93. both Class 1 and Class 2 fax at speeds up to 14400.  If you think you might
  94. have an older model, issue a "AT+FCLASS=?" command from your terminal
  95. program.  It it responds "0,1" you have an older model that needs the
  96. upgrade in order to use Class 2.  If it responds "0,1,2" you have a newer
  97. model and BGFAX should work fine.
  98.  
  99. PC Logic owners
  100. ---------------
  101.  
  102. The PC Logic adaptive answering seems to not work at all, in the 14400
  103. model.  I haven't tried it with their new v.32terbo modem.  My advice is
  104. to not try running BGFAX on the PC Logic.
  105.  
  106.
